"I thought the study techniques in Get The Best Grades With the Least Amount of Effort would be just as useless as all the books my Dad had already bought me. But this time I thought I would try just 3 of the tips for 1 week to see what happened. I couldn't believe how much better I felt about studying. I only have one piece of advice for other students – just do it!" ~ Wilson, United States
They can take it back, but if they’ve accepted you without waiting to see your final grade its unlikely. As Long as you graduate I don’t think you’ll have to worry. You may have to end up taking a “remedial” math course in college (no college credit) to qualify for the 100 level courses, but if you have passed algebra and geometry you’ll probably be alright as far as that goes. They’ll require some math, but you could gear it towards your major. For instance My wife took a math course that was geared towards learning how to teach elementary math. Piece of cake.
You’ll be fine.
PLEASE i beg of you to help me I’m crying!!! (it’s long) REALLY UPSET?
Hi my name is Alexis I’m a senior in high school. I’ve struggled with math since 5th grade. My freshman year of high school i took Algebra I and failed. I had to retake it my sophomore year and ended up passing it with a b-. During my junior year i took geometry and had one of the best teacher’s I’ve ever had in high school. He helped me understand it and i ended up passing with about a C average which for me is REALLY DECENT considering normally i get D’s. I have all A+’s if it was aside from math. I feel I’m intelligent just not with math.
Here’s the BIG PROBLEM: in my high school you are only allowed to fail 2 things it can be a Marking period and a mid-term or a marking period and a final or just two things. If you fail more then 2 then you fail for the year. Every year i have always manged to pass everything but the mid-term and the final which are not worth much. This year my teachers are terrible. She gets angry at me when i ask for help she can’t explain anything and she litereally just does the problem for me then hands it back to me when i’ve asked for help. She has never ONCE went over something on the bored it’s all “worksheets” i’ve never seen a class like this in my entire life!! I did two extra credit projects for her that took me 3hours a piece to do and she told me they stunk and wouldn’t give me extra credit. I got accepted into college but i’m scared if i loose credit for this class then they will like take away my acceptence. Espically if i loose credit for Alg. II!! I am constanly crying and nervous i have to pass this test friday. I sat down one on one with my teacher today and am planning to work with my teacher from the previous year to help boost my grade and help me possibly understand what i am doing every day this week aside from today i didn’t have the chance. MY QUESTIONS ARE:::: WOULD A COLLEGE TAKE BACK AN ACCEPTENCE IF THEY SAW A FAILING GRADE//NO CREDIT ON A REPORT CARD??? WHAT SHOULD I DO I’M A NERVOUS WRECK AND ALWAYS UPSET?? WHAT DO I DO IF I DON’T PASS? I CAN’T RE-TAKE THE CLASS? AND JUST HELP PLEASE ANY ADVICE WILL DO I’VE NEVER BEEN SO UPSET//STRESSED BEFORE!!!
I am teaching Math to young adults (16-24 years old) – at-risk/underprivileged.
Their initial competencies range from as low as 5th grade to 8th grade level.
My main responsibility is to help them pass a competency test and then they complete the course. The class is a revolving door, meaning once someone passes I get a new student.
Areas I cover include basic arithmetic, decimals, fractions, measurement, geometry, algebra, problem solving, statistics, integers and a few others.
I usually write problems on the board and have them do worksheets. Sometimes I have them do activities too but not usually.
Unfortunately, I have a quota ( a certain number of students need to pass out of my class) each month so it is essential they understand the basics of each area, which is why I keep it very simple.
I would appreciate some suggestions on how to spice it up a bit.
Also if you know of any great resources for manipulatives or activities online, I would appreciate that too.
i have these worksheets that are a major part of my grade and i don’t understand these questions.?
there all confusing to me, and our teacher doesn’t really teach us how to do the problems. theirs 5 pages but only 22 problems. i need it by tonight or tomorrow morning.( its geometry problems)

It would probably be easiest to start with some simple flash cards to gauge what he already knows (unless you already know him). You might could even make some math word problems to hit both English and math at once.
What will you recommend for me?
I am tutoring a boy for an entrance test in 5th grade in the DPS STS School. Being a student of 6th grade, I don’t feel very confident about it….
Their entrance test syllabus is:
English:
Children are expected to read an unfamiliar text in English at a reasonable speed with a fairly good comprehension
Expected to answer questions using grammatically correct and complete sentences based on unseen passage
Expected to give meanings of words in a context and provide antonyms or synonyms as asked
Expected to have the ability to write grammatically correct sentences and to be able to express themselves clearly in English
Should be able to describe objects and narrate experiences
Punctuation
Story Writing
Maths:
Expected to find fractions, factor and multiples, percentage, sum, difference and product and quotient of bigger number.
Must know the basics of geometry and should be able to identify figures like circles, cuboids, cones, cylinders and spheres etc
Subtraction
Division
Fractions and multiples
Measurement- capacity conversion (l-ml) (gm-Kg) (m-Km)
Multiplication- multiplying 3 digit X 2 digit
Time- calculation duration in hours and minutes
BODMAS
Data Handling- Range, Mode, Median, Mean
Probability
Number Properties
Divisibility by 3,4,6,8
Multiples
I don’t know where to start and what to do. Can you recommend some worksheet and exercises I can do to teach him? I need urgent help! His test is on Friday!
I mentioned this a long time ago but have you tried doing the budget thing with them? Having everyone work on a budget (rent, elect., groceries, cable, phone, etc)? This gives them the opportunity to see how their paycheck is going to be used once they are on their own. Grocery lists for instance would involve you bringing in some newspapers with the grocery sections so they can shop for food. Newspapers come in handy for rental places…… Do you see where I’m going with this? It is a fun activity. Everyone is involved. And, the students are learning how to find what they need. Bring in some phone books so the kids can familiarize themselves with “how” to use them. Electricity, phone company, cable company, USPS – how to do a change of address, etc.
If you have a phone in your class, they could practice calling the various places to find out the cost of things……… that might not be in the paper.
I have had a long day! Hope this makes sense. Again, my kids always had fun doing this and they actually learned something! The areas that you cover can be utilized doing this…..
